The 4-2-1-3 has taken over as the go-to meta formation this cycle. It's the balanced pick for players who want a stable base without sacrificing attacking threat — two holding midfielders protect the back four, the CAM links play quickly, and the front three stay ready to punish any gap. It suits newer players and grinders alike, and it's a strong option for anyone who plays EA Sports FC competitively or just wants a reliable all-round shape.

Strengths & Weaknesses of the FC 26 4-2-1-3 Formation
Double pivot protects well against counters, and the front three creates consistent chances without complex build-up play.
It is good for those who prefer to play centrally and want a beginner-friendly structure.
It can feel a bit tight in the midfield against packed defenses.
It needs fullbacks with medium-to-high work rates to provide width in attack.
The 4-4-2 formation and custom tactics
The 4-4-2 formation remains one of the most popular systems in EA FC 26, prized for aggressive pressing and attacking play. Two strikers pin the opposition center backs while wide midfielders help trap passes, making it excellent for suffocating opponents high up the pitch. There are some things to consider with this formation, so make sure to pay attention to the extra details we provide with some of the options. You don't need any specific players for the 4-4-2, making it a suitable formation for beginners in EA FC 26.

The 5-3-2 formation and tactics in EA FC 26
The 5-3-2 formation is a defensive but effective system in EA FC 26. It may seem a bit defensive, but this formation can also be very attacking, especially with wing-backs bombing forward for width. We have been winning a lot with this formation and we recommend you give it a try. You ideally want three center backs, while the right and left center mid can be more offensive. The center midfielder should be a strong player who can hold the midfield.

How to Use the 4-2-3-1 Formation and Custom Tactics
The 4-2-3-1 remains one of the most reliable shapes in EA FC 26. This formation is known for its solid defensive structure, mainly because of the two defensive midfielders.
In attack, a creative player in the number 10 role can be decisive, supported by reliable defensive midfielders. The team also has two wingers and a striker, giving plenty of attacking options — and the wide variant adds three creators behind the striker for extra possession and width.
One option you have is to try different types of defensive midfielders. For example, you could have one player who focuses on defense and another who is more balanced and covers both defense and attack. This gives you more flexibility, which is a key advantage of choosing the 4-2-3-1 formation.
