Why Backup Codes Don't Work
Why Are My EA Backup Codes Not Working?
Backup codes are designed to help you log into your EA Account if you cannot use your usual Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) method. However, sometimes players find that their backup codes either don’t appear or do not work. Here’s why this happens and how you can fix it.
Common Reasons Backup Codes Don’t Work
1. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Is Not Enabled
- If you don’t see any backup codes in your EA Account, it usually means that 2FA has not been turned on.
- To generate codes, first enable 2FA in the Security & Privacy section of your account settings. If you need help, use this Tutorial.
- Once activated, the backup codes option will appear.
2. Used Codes Cannot Be Reused
- EA provides 6 unique backup codes.
- Each code is for one-time use only.
- In your account, used codes turn grey, while unused codes remain bold and black.
- If you attempt to reuse an old code, it will not work. So you must create new codes.
3. You Might Be Logged Into the Wrong Account
- Many players have more than one EA Account without realizing it.
- If none of your codes work even if you’ve created backup codes, double-check that you’re signed into the correct EA Account.
- Make sure the codes you’re entering belong to the account you’re trying to access.
How to Generate New Back up Codes
- Go to the EA website and log in to your EA Account.
- Open Security & Privacy Settings – In the menu, go to Security & Privacy.
- Go to Two-Factor Authentication Section.
- Click on view back up codes.
- Under the listed back up codes click “create new back up codes.”

EA will generate 6 fresh codes for you to use.
